History of Gilbert FFA

The Gilbert FFA Chapter was re-established in the fall of 1992, with Mr. Jon K. Davis chartering the chapter and receiving State Board Approval from the Iowa Board of Education.  The chartering members of the chapter began with just 12 members.  Today, the chapter boasts over 170 active members in grades 9th through 12th with active out-of-school members participating in activities as well.

An Alumni chapter assists with fundraising, sponsoring scholarships, serving on the Career and Technical Education Advisory Council, judging Career Development Events, and many other community activities in support of the Gilbert FFA and Ag Ed program.

Members regularly participate in sponsoring, building, and posting U.S. flags throughout main streets in Gilbert.  Showing at two county fairs and the Iowa State Fair in livestock, photography, mechanics, and equine continue to be areas of interests for members in and out of school.

Career Development Events in Leadership Contests and Skill Contests throughout the school year and summer allow classroom skills to be evaluated in an authentic environment.  Gilbert has had many top-ten state teams and individuals advance through the ranks of sub-district and district events to compete at State Leadership Convention.

A Community Garden, sponsored through Winfield Solutions, gives members the opportunity to raise truck crops for donation to local food pantries.  The greenhouse is the sight where many of the garden plants originate during the early spring months.

An annual Ice Cream Social recognizes new degree recipients, and a Friends of the FFA Banquet highlights chapter and member accomplishments, as well as community supporters at a full meal and program event.  Support through Gilbert and neighboring communities provides silent auction items so that awards and guests are all sponsored.

Many recreational, community service, individual awards, travel, and fellowship opportunities await members of the Gilbert FFA Chapter in this diverse, yet steeped in tradition organization.
